First Sentry Savannah Exercise of 2017 Underway

Archives

sentry-savannahSavannah – It appears that the first Sentry Savannah exercise of 2017 is underway at the Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center/Air Dominance Center at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. This iteration of the exercise’s players are the 43rd Fighter Squadron from Tyndall AFB with F-22As, the 142nd Fighter Wing, Oregon ANG from Portland ANGB with F-15Cs, VFA-143 from NAS Oceana with F/A-18Es, and the 2nd Fighter Training Squadron from Tyndall AFB with T-38s. All of the above are flying out of the CRTC/Air Dominance Center and working off of the Georgia Coast in the Special Use Areas controlled by SEALORD.  F-16s from the South Carolina Air National Guard at McEntire JNGB have also been participating. The exercise should run for two weeks with the possibility of other units arriving for the second week.

So far, frequencies in use are the same as used in previous Sentry Savannahs. The usual local air traffic control frequencies and SUA frequencies are in use along with the same NORAD and exercise frequencies used in years past. The units seem to be using their own air-to-air frequencies this time instead of pool frequencies that have been used before.
