New to the Area Air Methods Bell 407 in the Savannah Area

Archives

Savannah – Yesterday I caught an Air Methods Bell 407, N408SH, that’s new to the Savannah area doing what seemed to be an area familiarization flight in the Savannah area around Memorial Hospital. Air Methods is the same company that operates LifeStar and several other air ambulance helicopters in South Carolina’s lowcountry (as well as many others around the country).

It was on Hunter AAF tower frequency 124.975 as it flew the area around Memorial and made several landings on the helicopter pad at Memorial. It’s worth noting that N408SH showed up on Mode-S and ADS-B and I was able to follow it with my Mode-S/ADS-B receiver while it was flying around Memorial (see photo above). I didn’t get a visual on N408SH yesterday, but a recent photo from June of this year I found online shows it white and blue with a red stripe. I never did get an idea of where it might be flying out of, but it will definitely be worth keeping an eye and ear on. Keep an ear on 125.300/120.400 (Savannah Approach), 119.100 (Savannah Tower), 124.975 (Hunter AAF Tower), 123.025 (Savannah Helicopter Advisory), and 155.340 (HEAR) for it to show up again or begin flying medevac missions in the area.
