3rd Combat Aviation Brigade Tailnumbers

Archives

Savannah – I’ve been trying to put together a list of tail numbers for the helicopters assigned to the 3rd Aviation Brigade at Hunter AAF for a while now and I’ve finally come up with one. I’ve used what I’ve heard on the radios, seen on Mode-S/ADS-B, and information from other spotter sources such as Scramble to come up with the list below. Over the last few years, the composition of the Brigade has changed. One change was the loss of 3-17 Cav’s OH-58s, after which they took over the AH-64Ds of  the Attack Helicopter Battalion, 1-3 AVN.  Additionally, C/2-3 AVN and 4-3 AVN traded their UH-60A and UH-60Ls for HH-60Ms and UH-60 Ms. The Brigade currently has 3 flying battalions (plus one support battalion). 2-3 Aviation, the “Knighthawks,” is the General Support Aviation Battalion with UH-60L Blackhawks, CH-47F Chinooks, and HH-60M Blackhawks. 3-17 Cav, “Lighthorse,” is equipped with the AH-64D Apache. The Assault Battalion is 4-3 Aviation, “Brawler,” equipped with UH-60M Blackhawks.
