AH-64D Unit Change for the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter AAF

Archives

Savannah – On 7 October, 1-3 AVN was re-designated as 3-17 Cavalry Regiment “Lighthorse.” Earlier this year, the 3-17 Cav’s OH-58D Kiowas were mothballed and the unit temporarily disestablished. Now that they’ve been reestablished, they take over the AH-64D mission within the 3rd Infantry Division’s 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade. It has been reported that the 1-3 AVN “Vipers” will be reestablished soon in Germany.

3-17 Cav will continue to fly the AH-64Ds that 1-3 AVN flew while at Hunter AAF, the unit will just have a new designation and all of the changes that come with it. I’ve already heard 1-3 AVN’s former Ops frequency 34.125 in use as LIGHTHORSE Ops instead of VIPER Ops, so as it stands it appears they’ll be using the same frequencies that 1-3 AVN did for now.
