Sentry Savannah Photos; 11 February 2015

Savannah – Curious about which units and aircraft are participating in the Sentry Savannah exercise this year, I went out to the airport this morning to watch the morning sortie land. It was disappointing to find that the airport was using runway 10 for takeoffs and landings because that meant I wouldn’t be able to see them land from my usual spot. I went around to the other side of the airport but never could find a good vantage point that was close enough for my lens and not looking into the the sun. Nothing from that attempt was worth posting so I went and had some lunch then went to my usual spot to attempt some takeoff photos. I’ve never attempted to take photos of jet fighters as they take off before, so I learned that taking pictures of takeoffs is much more difficult than taking pictures of landings because they’re moving so much faster (and are far louder, making it difficult to hear the radio even using earbuds). Anyway… here’s what I got that’s worth looking at:

Once the afternoon sortie takeoffs began, I actually felt sorry for some of the folks working near the airport. As they departed over the business around the GA 307/GA 21 intersection, car alarms began to go off from the noise, definitely not something that happens when they’re working in the other direction!

  1. […] Due to my lack of radio time I’m sure that the list above is far from complete, but at least it’s a starting point if their plans to have two more exercises this year come to fruition. If you’re interested in more photos of the F-16s and F-22s that were visiting, I posted some in a post earlier this month. […]
