Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge – 17 January 2015

Archives

Brunswick – On Saturday morning I visited the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. It was around 35F Saturday morning, but the skies were clear (unlike the previous days and the next day) and it was a good day for walking the trails. I walked the Bluebill Pond Loop and part of the Goose Pond Loop, seeing Anhingas, Black Crowned Night Herons, Common Gallinules, Coots, Great Blue Herons, Hooded Mergansers, Red Wing Blackbirds, Redheads, Ring-necked Ducks, Robins, Wood Storks, and Yellow Crowned Night Herons. I didn’t see any alligators, which wasn’t a surprise given the low temperature, but I did see one turtle out taking advantage of the sunrise to warm up in the sun. I also saw a couple of Wood Storks hanging around the back of Bluebill Pond, apparently they’ve decided not to go south for the winter and become year-round residents at Harris Neck.
