Aviation Photos from 24 October 2014

Savannah – Yesterday I spent much of the day out and about and had the opportunity to take some aviation related photos. First, some vintage warplanes arrived at Savannah IAP for display just after lunch so I took the opportunity to out to the airport and get some photos of them. Later in the afternoon, I was able to catch a flight of MH-47Gs from Hunter AAF.

Just after lunch on Friday afternoon, three World War II aircraft from the Collings Foundation arrived at Savannah International for display over the weekend. The B-17G, B-24J, and TP-51C taxiied over to the Signature Aviation ramp after landing and are set up there for display. I stopped by the airport and took a few photos:

A more modern warplane was also at the airport on Friday afternoon. A C-17 from the 164th Airlift Wing, TN ANG was parked on the ramp next to the old Savannah IAP terminal. Something interesting I noticed on it was Elvis’ “TCB” with a lightning bolt – for Taking Care of Business – on the winglets.

Later in the day, I caught ARMY 03785 flight (2x MH-47G, 3-160 SOAR) leaving Hunter AAF. Both helicopters flew past me not too far away and I caught some photos of each one. Both were flying away from the sunset, giving both a golden glow on the rear of the aircraft, but I particularly like the photo of the second MH-47G with the two crewman sitting on the ramp illuminated by the sunset.
