WW2COS B-17 Special Event Station – 23 July 2013

Archives

On 23 July 2013, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum’s B-17 “City of Savannah” will be on the air for the Eighth Air Force Historical Society’s reunion and the commemoration of the “City of Savannah.”  Plans are for the special event station to be on the air from 1400Z-2100Z (1000-1700 local).  Operations should be in the general class portions of the HF bands, usually 40 early and 20 Meters late depending upon conditions.

Operations will be from the B-17’s radio operator position, which is equipped with a functioning BC-348 receiver.  A modern day ham station is also set up at the position during special event operations.  A low power FM transmitter also transmits the radio operator outside of the B-17 so that visitors can hear the QSOs as they happen.  Video of the operations are usually streamed along with the frequency currently being operated on at K4GTM’s blog.

I plan on trying to get by the museum for part of the operation and if I do, I’ll try to tweet the frequencies being operated on as well (If I’m aware of them and not occupied with something else).  If I’m the one on the mic, I’ll definitely tweet the operating frequency.

If you work WW2COS, please take the time to QSL.  A QSL card featuring the B-17 and the “City of Savannah” restoration team is available.
