Special Event Stations to Look For; 9/10 March 2013

Special Event Stations scheduled this weekend will celebrate a radio club’s 60th Anniversary, Pennsylvania’s Charter Day, the establishment of the US Navy Seabees, the founding of the Girl Scouts, and the change to Daylight Savings Time.  They’ll also honor the Nebraska State ARRL Convention and amateur radio operators volunteering with American Red Cross.

9-17 March, 0000Z-2359Z, K0KKV – 60th Anniversary of the Lincoln Amateur Radio Club & Nebraska State ARRL Convention:  The Lincoln Amateur Radio Club will be operating a special event station on or near 14.295, 7.282, and 3.982 to honor their 60th Anniversary and as part of the Lincoln Hamfest and Nebraska ARRL Convention.  QSL via Lincoln Amateur Radio Club, PO Box 5006, Lincoln, NE 68505.  Website:  k0kkv.org

8-10 March, 2000Z-0200Z, WW7RC – National American Red Cross Month Special Event Station:   The King and Kitsap Counties (WA) Chapter of the American Red Cross will be operating a special event station on or near 14.260, 14.255, 7.245, and 7.190 for Red Cross Month.  Red Cross Month recognizes the volunteers, trainees, and donors that make the work of the Red Cross possible; WW7RC will  spotlight amateur radio operators who volunteer with the Red Cross to provide disaster communications.  QSL via Tim Myers, KK7TM, 6326 247th Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98053.

9-10 March, 1400Z-2200Z, WM3PEN – Pennsylvania Charter Day:  The Holmesburg Amateur Radio Club will be operating a special event station on or near 14.265 and 7.190 in honor of Pennsylvania Charter Day.  10 March will be Pennsylvania’s 332nd birthday. 9 March, 1700Z-2359Z, NI6IW – Navy Seabees Birthday, Girl Scouts of America Founded 1912:  The amateur radio station aboard the USS Midway(CV-41) Museum in San Diego, CA will be operating a special event station honoring the establishment of the US Navy Seabees on 5 March 1942 and the founding of the Girl Scouts of America on 12 March 1912 (in Savannah, by the way).  They’ll be operating SSB on or near 14.320 and 7.250,  PSK-31 on 14.070, and D-STAR in reflector 012C.  QSL via USS Midway Museum Radio Room, 910 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101.

10 March, 0000Z-0500Z, W8BAP – Lost Hour Special Event Station:  The Scioto Valley Amateur Radio Club will be operating a special event station on or near 28.445, 14.280, 7.250, and 3.860 to celebrate the change to daylight savings time and the hour lost when we “spring forward” this Sunday. While not necessarily operating a special event station, I would still consider them a special station, keep an ear out for N4WIS, the amateur radio station aboard the USS Wisconsin BB-64.  They’ll be operating on or near 7.264 and 14.264 and possibly 21.364, 28.364, and 28.464.
