Mobile DX From Jekyll Island – 15 October 2011

Archives

After dinner this afternoon, I drove out to Jekyll Island to play radio and get in a walk.  I ended up spending about 2 hours tuning around 10, 12, 15, and 20 Meters and working some good DX on the upper bands.  10 Meters and 12 Meters were in excellent condition today! As usual I operated from the Great Dunes Park parking lot.  Here’s what I was able to log:

  • EC1CT – Spain – 10 Meters
  • 9A4W – Croatia – 10 Meters (Dalmatia South Islands Group, EU-016)
  • HP1DSD – Panama – 10 Meters
  • EA4TL – Spain – 10 Meters
  • EA5GTQ – Spain – 10 Meters
  • D4C – Cape Verde – 10 Meters
  • HA8JV – Hungary – 12 Meters
  • HA9RT – Hungary – 12 Meters
  • MW0ZZK – Wales – 12 Meters
  • OE9MON – Austria – 12 Meters
  • DL2ARD – Germany – 15 Meters
  • DK0HF – Germany – 15 Meters
  • UT7UV – Ukraine – 20 Meters
  • DJ6OZ – Germany – 20 Meters

Additionally, I worked a couple of US station in the Iowa and New York QSO Parties respectively:

  • KN0R Mobile – Iowa – 15 Meters
  • W2CCC – New York – 15 Meters

A highlight of the day came on the way home.  As I was crossing the South Brunswick River on I-95 (around mile marker 31) I saw a Bald Eagle sitting on a mud flat in the river just east of the I-95 bridge.  It’s not every day you get to see an Eagle and not every day that you see one just sitting on the ground either!  It was a wonderful way to cap off a great afternoon!
