There is a new radio club in Coastal Georgia. Based out of Richmond Hill in south Bryan County, the Coastal Amateur Radio Team (CART) was formed this year and has the club callsign KK4BTD. From their website: CART was founded in 2011 as a non-profit association. CART was formed for educational, charitable, and scientific purposes which shall include, but not be limited to the following. The promotion of individual operating practices, particularly those that relate to all authorized Amateur Radio Frequency operations and experimentation among radio amateurs. To facilitate the exchange of information and general knowledge among members.Relaying of messages by radio. The furtherance of public safety and welfare and establishing international good will. The advancement of the radio art. The fostering and promotion of the education in the field of electronic means for the benefit of the member and general public. In the short time they’ve been in existence, they have been very active in recruiting and VE testing new hams. One of their first events is communications support and a special event station for this weekend’s 1st Annual Ft. McAllister Wounded Warrior Fishing Rodeo.
CART has a web presence with a website at http://www.coastalamateurradioteam.com/events.html and a Facebook page.
I’m proud to say I’ll be on the water tomorrow assisting them with communications for the event. Listen out on Saturday, 20 August 2011 for communications support using the 145.470 repeater as primary and the 442.700 repeater as secondary. The W4W Special Event Station will be active on HF, both phone and CW; if you work W4W and wish to QSL, you can QSL via AF4MI direct with an SASE.
