Savannah Tall Ships Challenge: 3-7 May 2012

There is an article in this morning’s Savannah Morning News with more information on May’s “2012 Savannah Tall Ships Challenge.”  It will be from 3-7 May with 15 tall ships participating.  The ships are expected to arrive between 1200-17oo on 3 May and the event will conclude with a tall ships “Parade of Sail” on 7 May.  In between, the ships will be open from 1000-1800 daily while docked along both sides of the Savannah River (River Street and Convention Center). It will be a great chance for folks to get out and see a bit of history, including ships like the Coast Guard’s Barque Eagle:

Cutter Eagle passes by Cockspur Island on the Savannah River

There aren’t very many chances to see 15 ships like the Barque Eagle in one place very often!  Not only will it be a great opportunity to see these historic ships, it should also provide some great monitoring for radio enthusiasts as the ships arrive, parade, and finally depart.

For more information, check out the event’s website, Facebook page, and Twitter account.

  1. To those who know the history of the Eagle, there probably isn’t one ship in the world like it, let alone 15 – but it’s certainly one I’d like to see if it ever gets up my way!

  2. Here! Here! I’m following the event on Feed.
